AFGHANISTAN GEMAELDE MASOOD
A cleaner polishes the face of Ahmad Shah Massoud on a board overlooking the entrance of Kabul International airport, on Monday 01 September 2003. Two days after the guerrilla leader was assassinated during an interview in northern Afghanistan, the US launched their campaign in Afgahnistan. The 'Lion of Panshir' is said to have battled the extremism of the Taliban and the totalitarianism of the Soviet Union for a free Afghanistan and a better world. His picture is still exposed all over the Afghan capital and admired by the soldiers of the Northern Alliance, in control of the city. (KEYSTONE/EPA PHOTO/OLIVIER MATTHYS)
