POLEN LITERATUR STANISLAW LEM
Polish writer and scientist Stanislaw Lem, 82 , receives the honorary doctorate awarded to him by the German Bielefeld University, in Krakow, Poland, Nov.13, 2003. Stanislaw Lem died on Monday, March 27, 2006 in Cracow, south Poland, aged 85, the author's personal secretary informed. Lem was born in 1921 in Lvov, then east Poland. His first short story Man From Mars appeared in 1946. Among his best-known books are Atronauts, Return From the Stars and Solaris, all in the pantheon of world SF.
