ITALIEN DANTE ALIGHIERI
Dante Aligheiri, poet (May/June c. 1265 - September 14th, 1321). A class of robots designed to explore within volcanoes and outer space have been named after the poet that envisioned a descent to hell in his 'Divine Comedy' (1308-1321). In a communication by Ricci to the periodical Nature 2005 it was also suggested that in The Divine Comedy, Dante intuitively grasped Galileo's invariance principle three centuries before Galileo. The principle is considered a pillar of modern science. (KEYSTONE/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY/PAUL D STEWART)
