USA MOTORISIERTE ROLLSCHUHE
Really free wheeling, Janet Slaughter moves along on her motorised roller skates while pushing 14-month-old Arthur Mitchell in his baby buggy in Chicago. One skate is propelled by a 16-pound power pack that straps on the back and consists of a one-horsepower recirculated air cooled engine with a one-quart capacity petrol tank. That is enough fuel for a 75-mile run on the skates, which have a top speed of 20mph. A hand control operates the clutch, accelerator and engine cutoff switch. They are manufactured by the Motorised Roller Skate Company of Greenview Road, Detroit, 19, Michigan. USA...September 20th 1959 (KEYSTONE/UNITED ARCHIVES)
