WELTRAUM RAUMSTATION MIR
Mir space station orbiting the Earth. Mir was launched by the USSR in February 1986 and spent 15 years in orbit around the Earth, being used to carry out numerous scientific experiments. Its planned re-entry (deorbiting) on 23 March 2001, resulted in its break- up over the Pacific Ocean. Photographed in June 1998, from the Space Shuttle Discovery, during mission STS-91.
