GIOVANNI BATTISTA PIRANESI - ROMAN ENGINEERING METHODS
Roman engineering methods, 18th-century illustration. The equipment here includes various block-and-tackle arrangements and an A-frame (upper right) being used to lift blocks of travertine and marble during the construction of the tomb of Caecilia Metella. Etching by Italian artist Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720-1778). This illustration was published in the period 1756-7 in Piranesi's 'Le Antichita Romane' (Roman Antiquities).
