epa01342893 A handout picture dated 06 May 2008 and made available 13 May 2008 shows Annette Rogers, a farmer's wife beaten in an attack on their Chigwell Extension farm between Chegutu and Kadoma, south-west of Harare, Zimbabwe. The attacks were allegedly by groups claiming to be war veterans with government forces in support, after Zimbabwe's disputed parliamentary and presidential elections held on 29 March. Morgan Tsvangirai, the president of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), said he would return home to face incumbent Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe in a presidential runoff election despite the risk of more violence. Tsvangirai, who beat Mugabe in the first round but with less than the necessary 51 per cent of the vote to assume the presidency, demanded the presence of international peacekeepers and election monitors, free media and an end to violence in the country as conditions for the ballot.
