French football great Michel Platini said Tuesday 15 March 2005 he would be a candidate for the presidency of the European Football Union (UEFA) in 2006. "I am going to present myself for the presidency of UEFA, to succeed Lennart Johansson," the 49-year-old Platini said. "I want to become involved in a turbulent world and see to it that the turbulence stops."
