STADT EBLA SYRIEN
Ebla, also known ask Tell Mardikh, is an ancient city in northern Syria that flourished between 2700 and 2200 BC. Archaeologists have excavated about 17,000 clay tablets from the site of the prominent kingdom. These tablets, inscribed in Sumerian cuneiform signs, are considered to be part of one of the oldest libraries in the world, which held the first bilingual dictionary. (KEYSTONE/Georg Gerster)
