epa01408247 A peer coordinator of Chaitanya AIDS Prevention Mahila Sangha (R) demonstrates the method of using a condom for safe sex to her 'Devadasi' counterparts during a camp on health education held regularly for Devadasis of Kalaadagi village, in Belgaum District, situated in the northern part of Karnataka, India, 02 July 2008. Chaitanya AIDS Prevention Mahila Sangha is an non-governmental organisation (NGO) which started in 2001. Today, it has about 5,400 sex workers who are mostly Devadasis as its beneficiaries. The Sangha gives Devadasis training on various aspects of HIV/AIDS and its prevention, issues of sex and sexuality, negotiating condom use, mobilising the community, treatment, counselling, education and empowerment.
