A MILLION SHILLINGS
MORERO, SOMALIA- DECEMBER 2008.On their way to the beaches that serve as departure points for Yemen, flatbed trucks packed fullof tahrib travel along coastal tracks. While some migrants and refugees are instructed to makethe thirty kilometre journey along the shore on foot, most are openly shuttled in small batchesby cheaply hired trucks. Escorted by armed gang members, the drivers can often make thisjourney several times a day in peak periods. With loyal militia in charge of the roads surroundingBossaso, when it comes to these operations, there is little risk involved for the smugglers. For the tahrib, it is a short, uncomfortable ride, and just another stage in their long journeys.
