Chad, Bebedja, Bebedja Prison. May 2013. Inmates at Bebedja prison...Bebedja Prison has become the living hell of nearly fifty men who pay their debts to justice. Almost all of them are between walls for minor offenses, like stealing a chicken or a pig..Most of the sentences are between six months and one year in jail. But that period of deprivation of freedom will not be easy to overcome under the inhuman conditions in which inmates must survive. The food is scarce, they only they get one dish a day, the famous 'boule'..The prison has no toilets or latrines. Prisoners have a small ditch covered with a kind of mats where they have to make their needs during the day, in full view of everyone else, they have managed at least to let them use empty water bottles to urinate in them..
