USA WAFFEN VERSCHROTTUNG
A magnet hoisted by a crane is used to lift some of the more than 5,000 long guns into a front-end loader for transport Thursday morning, March 27, 2003, at the Rouge Steel plant in Dearborn, Mich. The long guns range from antique muzzle loaders to AK-47s. The guns had been piling up in the evidence room at police headquarters since the mid-1970s. Deputy Chief Brenda Goss-Andrews said there was no charge for melting the guns. The metal will be recycled. (KEYSTONE/AP Photo/Detroit Free Press/J. Kyle Keener)
