Europas leistungsstaerkster Supercomputer im nationalen Hochleistungsrechenzentrum (CSCS) in Lugano TI ist am Freitag offiziell fuer die Forschung freigegeben worden. Fuer die Abnahme wurde er bereits erfolgreich getestet. Der Supercomputer der Firma Cray soll eine theoretische Spitzenleistung von 7,8 Petaflops erreichen. The Swiss National Supercomputing Center (CSCS) announced on Friday that the upgraded Cray XC30 supercomputer “Piz Daint”, in operation at CSCS since April 2013, has exceeded petaflops sustained performance in scientific production runs. At the same time “Piz Daint” demonstrates significant improvements in the energy efficiency. This important milestone will enable researchers to study more detailed models with higher accuracy.
