During the Swiss women's strike of 14 June 1991, hundreds of thousands of women took part in strike and protest actions throughout the country, as here in Lausanne, where the "Place de la Palud" was renamed "Place Clemence Royer", a French intellectual and women's rights activist. The motto of the strike was "When woman wants, everything stands still". The Swiss Federation of Trade Unions had called for a strike. The women demand the implementation of the constitutional article "Equal rights for men and women" that came into force ten years ago. (KEYSTONE/Str) Am Schweizer Frauenstreik vom 14.
