JAPAN GARDEN TOKYO
One does not normally associate classic Japanese gardens with Tokyo. To most people, the image that modern Tokyo conjures is that of a vast urban sprawl. Yet, unbeknown to many, within Tokyo's harsh scapes are pockets of greenery where time seems to have stood still and the weary modern soul can find moments of tranquility amid echoes from the past. Among such places are Koishikawa Korakuen and Rikugien, two gardens that date back to the very beginnings of Tokyo as a city. Both gardens were constructed during the Edo Period (1600-1868).
