Nagra Borehole Detection Drilling Mine Stadel-2
The Swiss National Cooperative for the Disposal of Radioactive Waste (Nagra) is supplementing the state of knowledge in the Nördlich Lägern siting area with the Stadel-2 deep borehole. This is necessary for the comparison of the areas in the selection of sites for deep geological repositories. The investigations focus on the properties of the rocks in the subsurface - in particular those of the Opalinus Clay in which the repository is to be located. The Stadel-2 deep borehole is the third deep borehole in the Nördlich Lägern siting area in stage 3 of the ongoing site search for a deep geological repository. It is expected to reach a depth of 1325 meters (a maximum depth of 2000 meters was applied for). A borehole takes about half a year to three quarters of a year to complete. (nagra/oro)
