Die St. Basilius-Kathedrale (eigentlich Kathedrale des Basilius des Glueckseligen) wurde von Ivan IV (auch bekannt als Ivan der Schreckliche) in Auftrag gegeben und zwischen 1555 und 1561 zu Ehren des Sieges ueber die Tataren und der Eroberung des Khanat Kasan gebaut. Die nicht sehr grosse Kathedrale steht auf einem einzigen Fundament und besteht aus neun Kapellen. Die Bauart beruht auf den zeitgenoessischen zeltaehnlichen Kirchen. The cathedral was commissioned by Ivan IV (also known as Ivan the Terrible) and built between 1555 and 1561 in Moscow to commemorate the capture of the Khanate of Kazan.
