AUSTRALIEN ORD DELTA
[Stockbild] Mangrove swamp. Aerial photograph of the Ord River Delta in Western Australia, with mangroves lining the water channels. Mangroves are tropical trees and shrubs with aerial roots, which form dense thickets in muddy tidal swamps. The muddy plains (grey) are flood plain zones, which become submerged during very high tides. Mangrove vegetation is adapted to survive the high salinity of the water, and their roots (pneumatophores) allow gaseous exchange to counteract the poorly aerated soil.
