GERMANY POLITICS SCHROEDER
BER80 - 20030428 - BERLIN, GERMANY : German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder speaks during a press conference to inform media of his Social Democratic Party meeting on Monday, 28 April 2003. Schroeder hinted Monday that he may resign if dissenters in his Social Democrats (SPD) party succeed in blocking a controversial social and economic reform package designed to boost the flagging German economy. Schroeder pointedly warned opponents of his so-called Agenda 2010 reform package, which is designed to cut Berlin's alarming public deficit and reduce high unemployment, that its foundations "could not be brought into question".
