Banquet given at the Exchange, Gottenburg, on the occasion of opening the railway between Gottenburg to Stockholm - from a sketch by our special artist, 1862. '...there was a ball at the Exchange, attended by about 1500 ladies and gentlemen. On the following evening a banquet was served in the same grand saloon. The King [Charles XV of Sweden and Norway], Prince Oscar, Prince August, and all the high dignitaries of State being seated at the upper end of the room, the remaining guests, in number about 600, taking dinner at the other tables standing. This was succeeded by a concert in the theatre given by the Harmonic Society, which was honoured by the presence of the King and the Royal family. As an amateur performance it was highly creditable, a cantata composed for the occasion exhibiting talent of a high order'. From "Illustrated London News", 1862.
