Kenyan teacher and Franciscan friar Peter Tabichi, 36, winner of the Varkey Foundation 2019 Global Teacher Prize, is a science teacher at a remote school in Pwani Village, Nakuru County, where about 95 percent of its students come from poor families, among them orphans or with only one parent. He gives away 80 percent of his salary to support community projects and pupils who cannot afford books or uniforms. The school has only a computer with poor internet connection and it lacks of access to clean water, among other challenges.
