UTERINE CANCER
Uterine cancer. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of adenocarcinoma cancer in the endometrium (lining) of the human uterus. Its surface (epithelial) cells are seen. Rather than being a uniform size, they have been invaded by large, malignant adenocarcinoma cells. Endometrial adenocarcinoma is the most common cancer of the uterus and usually occurs in post-menopausal women. Cancer cells are cells that divide and proliferate at an abnormally high rate. Treatment may include surgery and chemotherapy. Magnification: x2500 at 6x7cm size. (KEYSTONE/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY/STEVE GSCHMEISSNER)
