Shown here is a tableau vivant on a carnival float pulled by horses, which formed part of the unveiling celebrations. The scene is the 'Departure of (Christopher) Columbus' from Spain for the New World. He is portrayed - wearing velvet - in a rowing boat. Behind is Union Station, with the inscription: 'He that would bring home the wealth of the Indies must carry the wealth of the Indies with him. So it is in travelling. A man must carry knowledge with him if he would bring home knowledge']. Columbus Memorial. Parade At Unveiling, 1912. Creator: Harris & Ewing. (KEYSTONE/HERITAGE IMAGES/HERITAGE ART)
