RUSSLAND SIBIRIEN TUNGUSKA
Largest meteorite fall in recorded history on June 30, 1908, over the Lower Stony Tunguska River in Siberia, Russia. The (stone) meteorite or part of a comet exploded 5-10 km above ground with the energy of 1000 Hiroshima bombs the blast knocking over 80 million trees. Only 1927 an expedition led by Leonid Kulik reached ground zero in Siberia. Kulik's Station (image) from 1927 today is national heritage. (KEYSTONE/Georg Gerster)
