WELTRAUM MARS LANDSCHAFT
Clovis rock outcrop, Mars. Found in the Gusev crater by NASA's Mars Exploration Rover Spirit, this rock is softer than the surrounding volcanic rocks. The rover's Rock Abrasion Tool (RAT) was used to drill into it, and the X-ray spectrometer indicated that there were higher levels of sulphur, bromine and chlorine than in the other rocks previously studied. A possible explanation for this may be that the elements were left as deposits from fluid flows in the past. Parts of the rover can be seen at bottom right and left.
