Mughal, a Muslim Emperor who ruled northern India between the sixteenth and nineteenth century, Shaj Jehan ordered the building of the Taj in 1630 to honour his wife Mumtaz Mahal who died that year in childbirth. The government of the Uttar Pradesh state, where Agra is located, is celebrating 2004 as the International year of the Taj Mahal and 350 years birth annversary of Taj Mahal.
