The year 2015 marks the 10th anniversary of Israel's unilateral disengagement from Gaza, which included the dismantling of 25 Israeli settlements (21 in Gaza, 4 in the West Bank), the evacuation of all Jewish settlers and the withdrawal of all of Israel's military troops and equipment from the entire Gaza Strip. The disengagement plan put forward by Israel's then Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, a long-time supporter of settlements, was implemented in August 2005.
