USA. Montana. 1999. Crow Indian Reservation. Near Little Bighorn National Monument. Joseph M. Bullalo Bull Tail rests while forking fire heated stones into a small sweatlodge for a traditionalist custom held in the evenings. The heated stones are placed inside the lodge in a small pit and doused with water. Sweats for males are at sundown on the crow reservation and may last for an hour or more, followed by those for women. Many sweat enclosures are found in backyards on reservations where aboriginals who maintain traditional rites, gather with community members. Meditation and prayers are part of the sacred ritual.
