The total tolls of dead in India were at least 10,749 and 5,640 missing. Local economies are started to recover five years after the tsunami slammed into Asian coastlines, with more than half the people who lost jobs across the region now back at work. On 26 December 2009 will mark the fifth anniversary of the tsunami which decimated coastlines across the Indian Ocean, wiping out villages, killing entire families and crippling the economies in parts of Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India and Thailand.
