Ovarian cyst in endometriosis. Laparoscope view inside a woman's abdomen showing an ovarian cyst due to endometriosis. At centre left (white) is the rounded enlarged cyst of the ovary. Above it (pink) is part of the uterus. Endometriosis is the condition in which fragments of the inner lining of the uterus locate in other parts of the body. In this case, uterine fragments may have passed down a fallopian tube to lodge at the ovary. These fragments bleed at the time of the menstrual cycle to form slow growing cysts. Endometriosis is a painful complex condition needing drug treatment. Surgical removal of cysts may be necessary. (KEYSTONE/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY/Z. BINOR, CUSTOM MEDICAL STOCK PHOTO)
