AETHIOPIEN SALZ
Ethiopia Lake Assale (aka L. Karum) in the Afar Triangle (aka Danakil Depression) 116 m below sea level. The salt works from the air. The crust of the salt lake when dry is mined by local Afari salt workers. They break up the the crust and cut the salt slabs to size for transport by camel caravan. (KEYSTONE/Georg Gerster)
