DaimlerChrysler said Thursday 14 October 1999 that its aerospace unit DASA would merge with French Aerospatiale-Matra to form the third-biggest air and defence group in the world. The Franco-German cooperation, to be called European Aeronautic, Defense and Space Company (EADS), will have revenues of about 21 billion euros (22.5 billion dollars) and employ more than 89,000 people.
