NEONATAL BRAINS
Neonatal brains. Gross clinical specimens of two neonatal, human brains seen from the side, the front of the brain at right. The upper brain shows the folds (sulci) of the cerebral cortex, which are responsible for conscious movement, language and memory. The lower brain is a medial sagittal section, showing the internal structures. The C-shaped structure at lower centre is the corpus callosum, which is the connection between the two cerebral hemispheres. Below this is the pons, the origin of the cranial nerves.
