ISRAEL CHAIM WEIZMANN
Chaim Weizmann (1874-1952) was largely instrumental in securing the Balfour Declaration of 1917 by which the Jews were promised a national home in Palestine. He was President of the Zionist Organisation (1920-1930 and 1935-1946) and became Israel's first President in 1948. (Keystone/Camera Press/David Rubinger)
