Photograph made available 11 July 2007 shows South African surfboard glasser James Elsworth applying the surfboard manufacturers decal under fiberglass and resin on a new surfboard at DVG surfboards in Kommetjie, Cape Town, South Africa 05 July 2007. South Africa is one of the few places in the world where surfboards are still made by hand. Repairs are also done by hand and there is a steady stream of work as boards are continuously being damaged and snapped in the powerful surf found around the Cape peninsula. Repairs need good hand techniques to correctly align and remould the precise shapes of a surfboard. The process is toxic and produces poisonous fumes and fine dust. Hence the repairer is careful to use masks and an extractor fan in the repair bays. EPA/NIC BOTHMA SURFBOARD PICTURE PACKAGE 4 OF 18
