BURTON'S TELESCOPE, IRELAND
Burton's telescope. This is part of the equipment used by the Irish astronomer Charles Edward Burton (1846-1882) for his telescope in Loughlinstown, County Dublin, Ireland. Burton carried out observations of Mars, including observations of the 'canals' that Schiaparelli claimed to have seen. Burton also worked as an assistant to the Irish astronomer Lord Rosse.
