USA ATOMBOMBE TEST
Runit Island, part of Enewetak Atoll in the Marshall Islands, is seen in this 1978 aerial file photo. The top crater was created by a 1958 nuclear test. The bottom crater was created by a 1956 test and then was covered by a concrete dome in 1977 to hold radioactive soil. A tribunal recently awarded Enewetak residents $341 million as compensation for their relocation and the destruction of their atoll during A-bomb tests. Some craters are one-mile wide and 200-feet deep. (KEYSTONE/AP Photo/Davor Pevec/Str)
