ISLAND SCHMELZWASSER GLETSCHER
[Stockbild] Meltwater pools. Aerial photograph of meltwater pools on the Dyngjujokull glacier, Iceland. When volcanoes erupt, parts of the glacier melt, the meltwater running through the glacier and collecting in pools, as seen here. Eruptions also release large amounts of volcanic ash into the air which settles over the surface of the glacier (black). This ash and dust makes the water cloudy, their density determining the colour of the water, which ranges from a green/blue to grey. (KEYSTONE/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY/BERNHARD EDMAIER) === ===
