ARCTIC RESEARCH STATIONS ON SPITSBERGEN ISLAND
Scientists leave for an expedition on snowmobiles on Kongsfjord on Spitsbergen in Ny-Aelesund, Norway, 10 April 2015. Since 2003, German and French scientists have been working at the AWIPEV Arctic Research Base in the former miners' settlement in the Svalbard archipelago. The scientific work conducted at the Koldewey Station includes monitoring the north polar stratosphere and research by oceanographers, marine geologists, ice physicists on life in and at the Arctic Ocean.
