JAPAN UNESCO WELTERBE KUMANO
Japanese women wearing Heian era (794-1192) court dress participates in the Kumano Kodo Picture Scroll procession along the Kumano Kodo sacred pilgrimage route in Takahata village, Wakayama province, Friday 03 November, 2006. The procession is a re-enactment of a Heian era court pilgrimage to the sacred shrines along the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route. The route was designated a UNESCO Cultural Heritage Site in July 2004, due to the 1,200 year old traditions of nature worship still intact in the lush and rugged Kii mountain range of central Japan.
