SERBIA TRADITION CHRISTMAS
epa05701105 Serbian people transport oak-tree branches with their cars for the upcoming Orthodox Christmas celebrations in a forest near Subotica, Northern Serbia, 06 January 2017. According to Orthodox traditions, a head of family cuts branches of an oak-tree, called badnjak, for himself and his family on early morning of the day before Christmas. The branches and the shavings are consecrated by a priest and are burned in the evening, because the fire and the glowing ambers, according to folk traditions and religious belief, symbolize warmth and clear darkness from the lives of the humans.
