RESEARCHER WITH MILK SAMPLES
MODEL RELEASED. Milk samples. Researcher holding tubes containing milk samples. These will be used to test the health benefits of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), a fat found naturally in milk. Scientists at the Universities of Southampton and Reading, England, are testing whether increasing dietary CLA intake can enhance the human immune system. CLA may help the body to fight bacterial and viral infections. It could also act as an anti-cancer agent, by stimulating the immune system to destroy tumours. If its health benefits are proven, CLA levels in milk and other dairy products could be enriched by adding CLA to cattle diets. (KEYSTONE/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY/JAMES KING-HOLMES)
