- Dryland farming near Bushehr on the Persian Gulf, Iran 1976 - The dark-brown spots in the field mosaic are freshly ploughed or harrowed areas. It is probably several days since the light brown plots were worked. Land still waiting for the plough, or that will continue to lie fallow, seems quite bright, almost white. The fallow land appears rusty due to vegetation on it. There are no irrigation channels. The farmer has obviously decided to defy the dearth of rain and the sizzling heat on the Persian Gulf by means of dryland farming.
