Christian Palestinians from Bethlehem Take part in a Mass of Mar Saba holy day. The Great Lavra of St. Sabas (also Mar Saba) is a Greek Orthodox monastery overlooking the Kidron Valley in the West Bank east of Bethlehem. (northern Judea desert) It was founded in the year 439 by saint Sabas. It has been an active monastery since than, and still maintains many of its ancient traditions. The monastery has 16 monks from around the world not available to women.
