This 1978 photo shows French philosopher Louis Althusser. Althusser, was a Marxist philosopher and a lifelong member and sometimes strong critic of the French Communist Party. On November 16, 1980 Althusser strangled his wife, Helene Legotien, to death, following a period of alleged mental instability.
