A picture shows a heavy machine at work near the collapsed Hanshin Expressway in Kobe's Higashinada Ward, Hyogo Prefecture, western Japan, January 18, 1995, the day after the Great Hanshin Earthquake. The massive earthquake with a magnitude of 7.3 hit the city of Kobe and nearby areas at 5:46 a.m. on January 17, 1995. The quake left 6,434 people dead and 43,792 injured.
