SPANIEN MERIDA THEATER
Roman theater and amphitheater in the city of Merida, Estremadura in Spain. Merida (Emerita Augusta) was founded in 25 BC and eventually became the capital of Lusitania. Its theater (embellished and completed in the 2nd century AD) for 6,000 spectators and its amphitheater for 16,000 visitors testify to the city's grandeur. (KEYSTONE/Georg Gerster)
