HAIR FOLLICLES, SEM
Hair follicles. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a section through freeze- fractured hair follicles in the skin. The follicles, in the dermis of the skin, each produce a hair (brown strands) that protrude above the skin's surface (top). Each follicle possesses a sebaceous gland (porous, beige, for example at centre), which secretes oily sebum onto the hair and the skin. Magnification: x100 at 6x7cm size.
