CATARACT SURGERY
MODEL RELEASED. Cataract surgery. Close-up of a surgeon's hands operating to remove a cataract from a patient's eye. A cataract is a loss of transparency of the lens of the eye. It is extremely common in old age, causing a gradual loss of visual acuity (sharpness) and increasing short-sightedness. The surgeon will remove the abnormal lens and replace it with a prosthetic one. (KEYSTONE/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY/DR P. MARAZZI)
